Down to the wire in Kentucky Democratic Senate primary.

According to NBC News Projections, in a very close and hotly contested Democratic primary race, Amy McGrath defeated Charles Booker.

The margin victory currently stands at 2 percentage points with the final mail-in ballots a week after the election. McGrath is now pivoting to take on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McGrath, a Marine Veteran, has shown an ability to connect with citizens and donors alike, raising over 40 million.

Senator Mitch McConnell, first elected in 1985, is the senate majority leader. Initially considered a pragmatic and moderate Republican, McConnell’s views have shifted firmly to the right.

The aggregate poll website FiveThirtyEight on June 9th had McGrath leading McConnel, by 1%, a virtual tie considering error margins.

There was a record turnout for this election which helps set the stage for the November elections.
