Former NFL MVP, Cam Newton, is a New England Patriots. The one-year deal is full of incentives.
Initially reported by ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, it was confirmed via Instagram by Cam Newtown.
Newton is the most prolific quarterback on the New England Patriots Depth Chart. He joins a quarterback room that includes 2019 fourth-round pick Jarrett Stidham and 11-year veteran Brian Hoyer atop the depth chart.
NFL Insiders have suggested via multiple-sports outlets “the agreement with Newton was appealing to the team as a low-risk, high-reward situation, factoring in Newton’s health, a modest contract and New England’s transition at quarterback without Brady.”
Newton is very much rehabbing from his surgically repaired foot. No mention if the deal included a physical has been made known.
Former head coach and offensive guru Norv Turner who coached Newton in 2018 said “My whole deal is, when Cam was healthy, and we were there with him [in 2018], we were 6-2,” Turner said. “Just look at the tape — played his ass off. His issue was more health than anything else, and from what I understand, I don’t think these are health issues that he can’t overcome. He’s had the time off now. I think he’ll be great.”.
Newton led the Carolina Panthers to a Superbowl Appearance against the Denver Broncos. They were defeated 24-10.
Newton, who holds most of Carolina’s career passing records, has passed for 29,041 yards with 182 touchdowns and 108 interceptions and has rushed for 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns.
